Code of Conduct
(Version 5)

Purpose and Philosophy: The safety, welfare and well-being, and sportsmanship of Parish Athletics youth players parents and spectators are the primary concern of Parish Athletics.  Parish Athletics mandates the following conduct for all coaches, players, volunteers, parents, and spectators.

COACHES CONDUCT
Coaches, assistant coaches, or volunteers will adhere to the following:

  1. Parish Athletics operates under a safe child environment. Children should be supervised by parents/guardian at all times while at Parish Athletics practices/games or events.

  2. Coaches will not allow children to be dropped off at any practice/game without parent/guardian supervision.

  3. At no time during a game or practice will any coach or volunteer be alone with a single child where they cannot be observed by others.

  4. Coaches should coach their own players. Coaches should refrain from any negative communication with opposing players, parents, or spectators.

  5. Coaches should refrain from any negative communication or comments with opposing coaches.

  6. Any type of abuse will not be tolerated and may be cause for immediate dismissal.  No player, coach, or referee will be subjected to abuse which may include: physical, verbal, sexual, or mental abusive behavior.

  7. The use of profanity is prohibited.

  8. The use of positive techniques of guidance is encouraged. This includes redirection, positive reinforcement and encouragement.

  9. Physical restraint will be used only when necessary to protect a child or other children from harm. When physical restraint is administered, the situation must be immediately reported to a Parish Athletics Program Director.

  10. Referees or game officials will be shown respect by all coaches at all times.  Any mistreatment of a game official will not be tolerated.

  11. Any coach who verbally or physically mistreats an official or player or behaves in an unsportsmanlike manner at any time during the season may be suspended from coaching all Parish Athletics sports.

  12. Incidents of improper conduct by coaches before, during and/or after a Parish Athletic contest may result in disciplinary action. If the actions or attitude of a coach, assistant coach, or volunteer are found to be detrimental to the Parish Athletics Program, that coach/volunteer will be subject to review and discipline by the Athletic Program Director(s) and/or Board of Directors. Disciplinary action can range from counseling, probation, suspension or immediate dismissal, depending upon the circumstances.

  13. The decision to immediately dismiss a coach for improper conduct is made by the Athletic Program Director(s).  Such a decision is final.

  14. Any disciplinary action of a coach will result in meeting with the Athletics Program Director(s) or member of the Board of Directors.

  15. Any complaints about a coach will be referred to the Athletic Program Director(s) who will, when appropriate:

    1. Notify the coach that a complaint has been received.

    2. Investigate the complaint

    3. Notify the coach of the result and action to be taken

    4. Notify the person(s) issuing the complaint of the result and action to be taken

  16. All suspensions to a coach are for a period of up to twelve (12) months from the time of the infraction or indefinite if deemed appropriate by the Athletics Program Director(s).

  17. Upon completion of the period of suspension, a coach may request reinstatement in writing to Parish Athletics. 

  18. Final decision of reinstatement of a coach or volunteer is at the discretion of the Athletics Program Director(s) and/or Board of Directors.  

 

PARENT/GUARDIAN and SPECTATOR CONDUCT
The purpose of the Parish Athletic Program is to promote and encourage healthy physical activity and sportsmanship by our youth. Parents and spectators must realize that they represent Parish Athletics as do team members or coaches. All parents and spectators will adhere to the following:

  1. Parish Athletics operates under a safe child environment. Parents/guardian are expected to supervise their children at all times while at Parish Athletics practices/games or events.

  2. Children are not allowed to be dropped off at any practice/game without parent/guardian supervision.

  3. Referees or game officials will be shown respect by all parents/guardians/spectators at all times.

  4. Parents or spectators should refrain from any negative communication with opposing players or coaches.

  5. Poor sportsmanship, including interrupting a contest by going onto the field/floor or approaching a game official or coach will not be tolerated. Incidents of poor sportsmanship/unruly conduct will result in disciplinary action taken by the Athletic Program Director(s) (who will notify the parent/spectator).

  6. Calls made by Referees will not be discussed with parents/spectators.

  7. Any spectator who verbally or physically mistreats an official or player, or behaves in an unsportsmanlike manner at any time may be permanently banned from attending Parish Athletic contests or for a period of time to be determined by the Athletic Program Director(s).

  8. Incidents of improper conduct by a parent or spectator before, during and/or after a Parish Athletic contest may result in disciplinary action taken by the Athletic Program Director(s). Disciplinary action can range from counseling, probation, suspension or dismissal depending upon the circumstances.

  9. Reinstatements are at the discretion of the Parish Athletics Board of Directors.

  10. Violations of a ban will result in game(s) being stopped and until the individual(s) leave the site.

  11. Spectators are not permitted to file complaints concerning the performance of game officials. Only the head coach may file a complaint.

 


PLAYERS CONDUCT
The purpose of the Parish Athletic Program is to promote and encourage healthy physical activity and sportsmanship by our youth. All players represent Parish Athletics and should show good sportsmanship and adhere to the following:

Please note: Coaches should communicate to players the appropriate conduct of players on the team.

  1. Referees or game officials will be shown respect by all players at all times.

  2. Calls made by Referees will not be discussed with players.

  3. All Coaches (including opposing coaches) will be shown respect by all players at all times.

  4. Poor sportsmanship, including interrupting a contest by going onto the field/floor or approaching a game official or coach will not be tolerated. Incidents of poor sportsmanship/unruly conduct will result in disciplinary action.

  5. Poor sportsmanship or overly aggressive play will not be tolerated. In such instances a player may be removed from play.

  6. Incidents of improper conduct by players before, during and/or after a Parish Athletic contest may result in disciplinary action taken by the Athletic Program Director(s). Disciplinary action can range from counseling, probation, suspension or dismissal of a player or team depending upon the circumstances.

  7. Suspensions to a player are for a period deemed appropriate by the Athletics Program Director(s).

  8. Upon completion of the period of suspension, the parent/guardian of a player may request reinstatement in writing to Parish Athletics. 

  9. Final decision of reinstatement of a player is at the discretion of the Athletics Program Director(s) and/or Board of Directors.
